Afinmore April Dusk of Southbeck

NOW PROVEN

Black carrying chocolate

Working x Show

31kg

Hips 3/2

Elbows 0/0

Eyes: BVA clear March 25

DNA Clear:

PRA-prcd, CNM, EIC, SD2, HNPK, STGD, MCD, DM, HUU, Cystinuria, Copper toxicosis type ATP7A & ATP7B, CMS, PKD.

Because Koda is clear of all of these DNA tests, he will only pass on the clear gene to his offspring.

Koda has a calm & kind temperament and takes absolutely everything in his stride. He is trustworthy, biddable & a pleasure to have around the house and out on walks. He is the type of dog you can take anywhere, he loves a visit to the pub and soaks up attention from everyone, but will also happily lay by my feet and fall asleep. He loves people of all ages & is very polite and friendly with all other dogs, never dominant with dogs and easy to handle around females in season.

Koda is very biddable and absolutely loves any form of training, whether that be gundog or basic obedience, he just enjoys being with you and wants to please. Koda has always naturally walked nicely on a lead, had good recall from the start & anything you teach him he gets it in a few goes, I always say he was born half trained. He has all the qualities you would expect in a Labrador.

He a lovely mix of working and show lines with a pedigree behind him of proven working dogs. Koda has been out on a shoot day on our last day of last season, but due to his age, he hasn’t done much else working wise. On the day we took him out, he was switched on but obedient and not phased at all by the guns. We plan on taking him out beating and picking up this season.

Koda carries chocolate but doesn’t carry yellow or dilute so he will only produce black or chocolate puppies.

We have many more pictures and videos of Koda on our Instagram & website.

🐶 Buyer’s Checklist for Gun Dogs

Whether you’re buying, selling, or studding a dog, it’s essential to take the right steps to protect yourself—and the animals involved.

  • Always meet the dog in person at the breeder’s home or kennel—never agree to buy without seeing them first.
  • Ask to see the puppies with their Dam (mother), and the Sire (father) if available.
  • Verify all paperwork:
    • Kennel Club (KC) registration number
    • Date of birth
    • Health screening results
  • Prepare questions to ask the breeder. Some helpful ones include:
    • Did you breed the dog(s) yourself?
    • Can I see where they were bred and raised?
    • How old is the Dam, and how many litters has she had?
    • Was the birth natural or via C-section?
    • Are there any known health issues?
    • Can I see documentation for both Dam and Sire?
    • Will the puppy be vaccinated and wormed before purchase?

  • If something feels off, walk away. Don’t ignore red flags.
  • Ask for advice from a trusted third party if you’re unsure.
  • Take your time. This is a big decision—don’t rush it.

  • Puppies should appear happy, healthy, clean, and curious.
  • You should be allowed to see and handle all puppies in the litter, not just the one you're considering.
  • Never buy a puppy younger than 8 weeks old.
  • Avoid any puppies that show signs of illness—e.g. runny eyes, weakness, or diarrhoea.

  • Is the whelping pen clean?
  • Do the dogs have access to fresh water, clean food, and adequate space?
  • The living conditions can say a lot about the breeder’s standards.

  • Ensure you receive the KC registration form and all relevant documents at the time of payment.
  • Write up a simple contract to protect both buyer and seller—especially important in case circumstances change.
  • Never agree to buy a puppy in a car park or public place. Always go to the breeder's premises.
